Glasgow Tourism and Visitor Plan - Mid-term Performance Review
July 8, 2020
Posted By: Peter Jordan
We’ve supported Scotland’s largest city to strengthen its position as a major UK leisure destination.
Scotland’s biggest city is home to some of Scotland’s biggest museums and cultural institutions, and the list of the city’s cultural and leisure attractions continues to grow. The world’s media has been heaping praise on Glasgow as a must-visit destination for some years now; highlighting the city’s warmth, style, energy and thriving art, music and food scenes. While the city has become a highly accomplished host for major sporting and business events, there is a widespread ambition to see Glasgow become better established as a leisure destination in its own right, and to fulfil the ambition of becoming a ‘Gateway City’ to the rest of Scotland. This ambition is set out in the Glasgow Tourism and Visitor Plan 2016-2023.
Against this backdrop, Glasgow Life, Scottish Enterprise and VisitScotland asked us to carry out a performance review based on the Tourism and Visitor Plan, and make recommendations on how the city’s tourism leadership and governance bodies could support delivery of the Plan in the years to come. While the background research and stakeholder consultations took place prior to the impact of COVID-19 becoming fully known, we were able to make recommendations on how the city’s tourism stakeholders should move forward, and help the leisure sector towards a sustainable recovery. Work is now underway to support a sustainable recovery, and the outcome of this project will be released in due course by Glasgow Life and partners.
